Running is often closely linked to a passion for travel.
Major marathon events have long recognized this trend, which has led to a growing number of international participants in road races. It’s no different at the Silesia Marathon, where runners from all over the world take part. Covering the full 42.195 km distance offers a chance to truly see and experience a place from differnt perspective!
Just like us, many runners—after taking part in several local races—begin to look for events abroad.
And it’s no different for runners around the world. Poland is becoming an increasingly attractive destination, and the evolving region of Silesia is drawing more and more tourists — including running enthusiasts. Our unique race, with a course that passes through four cities, consistently receives glowing reviews from runners coming from the most distant corners of the globe. These positive experiences are shared with others, helping to build our reputation as a great ambassador for both Poland and the Silesian region. This word-of-mouth recognition directly translates into the growing number of international participants year after year.
Two runners from New Zealand, while traveling across Europe, decided to take part in the Silesia Marathon — encouraged by a friend who had run here the year before.
Happy with her performance, Johanne Mills shared her thoughts at the finish line: „it was a beautiful course — through parks and even the old town district of Nikiszowiec. The volunteers were incredible, and the crowd support along the way was just amazing.” Gogo Brendon from Canada added:“I’ve run many marathons around the world, and the Silesia Marathon is truly a world-class event. A beautiful route, a fantastic atmosphere, and a finish line that many organizers could envy. I’ll definitely be back.”
Positive memories pay off. This year, we’ve already received registrations from runners representing 32 countries!
The most represented nations are Germany, the Czech Republic, and the United Kingdom. Slovakia, Norway, and France are also sending an increasing number of marathoners.
Runners preparing for this year’s Silesia Marathon are coming not only from across Europe. We’ll also welcome participants from countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, the USA, as well as Iceland, India, and Taiwan. We hope that the 17th edition of the Silesia Marathon will once again highlight the hospitality of our region’s residents — and that the runners will leave with nothing but great memories
It is worth emphasizing that the Silesia Marathon is an active member of AIMS – the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races. This gives us the opportunity to gain and exchange experience with marathons held on all continents, while also contributing to the promotion of Poland and the Silesian Voivodeship around the world.
