We are proud to announce that Katowice has once again joined the group of Partners, becoming the Host City of the event. Silesia Marathon is an excellent opportunity to get to know the capital of the Silesian Voivodeship better and discover its unique character.

City of transformations

Not long ago, Katowice was associated with heavy industry, coal, and steel. Today, it is the capital of a metropolitan area with nearly 2 million inhabitants that has undergone an impressive transformation. A symbol of these changes is the “Warszawa II” mine shaft tower, which has been revitalized as an observation deck offering panoramic views of the vibrant and colorful city.

Culture Zone – the heart of Katowice

Undoubtedly, the heart of Katowice is the Culture Zone – a unique architectural complex that includes:

– The National Symphony Orchestra of Polish Radio, captivating with its modernist architecture,
– The Silesian Museum, showcasing rich collections in archaeology, history, and art,
– The International Congress Center – the largest conference space in Poland,
– Spodek – a multifunctional sports and entertainment arena with a characteristic shape resembling a spaceship,
– KTW – a modern office building, the tallest in the Silesian Voivodeship.

The Culture Zone is not just an impressive collection of buildings but also a vibrant cultural hub. Numerous concerts, exhibitions, performances, and festivals take place here, attracting both locals and tourists from around the world. Since May 1, 2024, the Culture Zone has also become a venue for mass sports events – where runners started and finished their sporting competition 19th edition of Silesia Halfmarathon and Run of Heroes >>>

Katowice – European City of Science 2024

Katowice has been announced as the European City of Science 2024 (ECS 2024). This prestigious title is awarded by EuroScience in collaboration with the European Commission. Achieving this title is the result of efforts by the City of Katowice and seven public universities forming the Academic Consortium – Katowice City of Science. This accomplishment wouldn’t have been possible without the Silesian Science Festival KATOWICE – one of the largest European popular science events and a significant platform for citizen science.
