We are approaching another edition of the Silesia Marathon, and our project continues to be supported by the Silesian Voivodeship, which is the Main Partner of the Silesia Marathon 2024. One of the most popular mass athletics events in Poland, attracting thousands of participants from across the country each year, is a significant initiative for the authorities of the Silesian Voivodeship.

— “The Silesia Marathon has been a permanent and important event in the sporting calendar of the Silesian Voivodeship for years. Year after year, more participants take part, reflecting how much importance we place on physical activity today. At the same time, the attendance shows that this event is well-organized and appropriately addresses every age group that wants to engage in sports and spend their free time in this way. An additional attraction is the finish line at the Silesian Stadium, which has been the official National Athletics Stadium for several years. It is a special place for local sports.” emphasizes Wojciech Saługa, Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship.

— “With each passing year, the prestige and significance of the Silesia Marathon grow, thanks in large part to the Silesian Voivodeship. The start and finish location at the Silesian Stadium is historically significant. I feel a great sense of satisfaction as our marathon has been held continuously for 16 years. Even during the pandemic, we managed to conduct the event despite the restrictions in place at that time. The Silesia Marathon is a story that we continue to create together.” says Bohdan Witwicki, Director of the Silesia Marathon.

The Silesia Marathon route runs through the streets of Katowice, Mysłowice, Siemianowice Śląskie, and Chorzów. Competitors running the 50 km distance cover 8 km through the alleys of Silesian Park before entering the marathon route. Half marathon runners will traverse “only” three cities. Since 2017, all participants have finished on the track of the Silesian Stadium in Chorzów.

The popularity of the Silesia Marathon plays a significant role in promoting the Silesian Voivodeship. Along the route, participants pass by several landmarks, including the Spodek arena, the modern architecture of the Cultural Zone, the green Valley of Three Ponds, Nikiszowiec, the historic Fitzner Villa, and many sites that reference the industrial history of the region.
